About these terms
This website is operated by Sankofa Health (Pty) Ltd (registration number 2021/593224/07) (“Sankofa”, “we”, “us”). By using it you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
What the site is for
The site describes Sankofa, its services and its plans, and lets you get in touch. Nothing on it is an offer to sell or license any product, service or data, and no contract is formed through the site. Any arrangement with Sankofa is concluded only by a written agreement signed by both parties.
No medical or professional advice
The site contains general information about health data, genetics and medicine, including examples drawn from published research. It is provided for general interest and background only. It is not medical advice, is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional, and must not be relied on to make decisions about diagnosis, treatment or medication. Nothing on the site is legal, regulatory, financial or investment advice.
Forward-looking statements
The site describes plans, partnerships, services in development and expected capabilities. Statements about the future are our current intentions and expectations, not promises; they depend on events outside our control and may change. Descriptions of data refer to data available or expected to be available on the platform under agreements with our data partners, subject to the governance, de-identification and certification processes those agreements require.
Intellectual property
The content of the site, including text, design, graphics, logos, the Sankofa name and the Sankofa bird device, is owned by Sankofa or its licensors and protected by copyright and trade-mark law. You may view, download and print pages for your own information, and journalists may quote the site to report on Sankofa. You may not otherwise reproduce, distribute, modify or exploit the content, or use our name or marks, without our prior written consent. Third-party names and marks mentioned on the site, including NVIDIA and Cassava, belong to their owners and are used to describe our relationships with them.
Acceptable use
You may not use the site in a way that damages or impairs it, attempts to gain unauthorised access to any system or data, scrapes or harvests content or contact details, sends unsolicited messages through the contact form, or breaks any law.
Accuracy and availability
We take care to keep the site accurate and up to date but do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, error-free or always available. We may change or withdraw any part of it without notice.
Liability
To the extent the law permits, and without limiting any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where it applies, Sankofa is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the site or reliance on its content, including indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Personal information
Personal information provided through the site is handled in accordance with our privacy notice, and requests for access to records are handled in accordance with our PAIA manual.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time by publishing a revised version on the site. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
